Hello and welcome to a quick tutorial on how to get the VWT Community server maps in game on Wurm Unlimited. My name's Smebb and I'm going to walk you through how to install the maps -I'm going to quickly show you what it looks like without the maps first. Just so you can confirm it.Right - if you press 'M' by default that shows the map.Now usually if you join a server that has a custom map it doesn't - it shows the Freedom Isles.Which is going to be no use to anyone. So to get the VWT maps in gamewhich are similar to these ones here.First of all what you're going to do is make sure that Wurm Unlimitedis closed completely or else you're going to get errors.Right - erm... you want togo to the WinRAR web site and there is a free trial download depending on what version ofWindows you're running. I already have WinRAR installed but basically all you do is justdownload it.Then install.*Windows User Account Control alert*That's basically it you can just go through- there is no malware, no spyware nothing like that that's bundled with it.No adware or nothing. So once you've got it installed, erm... you'llwant to download this which is the zip file which contains the files that you're goingto insert in to the - in to the game. (Right I want that graphics folder somewhere...just put it on my desktop)Right now what you want to do is you wantto find wherever your Wurm Unlimited is installed, which is usually... erm...C:...Program Files(x86)...Steam...steamapps...common...Wurm Unlimited... and it's the WurmLauncher, that's where you want to be going in to. Now before you do anything to these files, I'drecommend you making a copy of this 'packs' folder. I mean you can just-if you've gotSteam installed to the default location and you have Wurm Unlimited installed in yourSteam folder then you can just copy and paste that *the directory path from the VWT website* and it will take you in to here. Now- back this up - this file here - before youdo anything with it.. so I'm just going to copy that to my desktop.Ah yeah because there's a folder.. right...Erm...It's a really big file because there's a lot of images in it so it might take a while dependingon your computer speed.Once you have a copy of thatwhat you want to do is you want to right click on the 'graphics.jar' file..and click on 'Open with WinRAR'- if youinstalled 7-Zip it will be similar to this it'll just say 'Open with 7-Zip' or something...And you'll get something that looks like this: these are all the files that makes up the-like all the models and all the textures and your graphical User Interface will bestored in here. Now there's two files we're going to be replacingwhich is the 'mappings.txt', the 'xmlsmapunlimited.xml' those are the only two files that we're goingto actually replace. We're going to be adding the two map files in the 'guitestMaps' andit's going to be inserted in to here. Now provided that you haven't gone in to anyof those folders you can just highlight those files there, drag them over on to WinRAR,make sure this says 'Add and replace files' under where it says 'Update mode' you don't
need to click ANYTHING ELSE.. just click OK and then wait because it will have to addthe files, verify them and then recreate the jar file to make sure the file directory structureis correct. Some people say that when you modify the client you need to remove the 'META-INF'directory which is a little bit further up... But I've never had any problems just addingthe files in because the WinRAR it actually creates the Java data that it needs. There we go! So what were the files that we just added?Basically they are.. telling Wurm it's just adding- it's telling the Wurm to add ViolentIslesmap and VoilentIslesSouth and setting those to those two images there- which are prettymuch those two images here. Erm.. and also.. this here errm- it's added on The ViolentIsleswith the default annotations for the Isle of Regret, Noyoo Market and Yama and alsothe map for ViolentIslesSouth and the marker for Peaceful Pier. If you know how to editXMLs or erm you feel confident in doing that then you can just add in fromto down to here: That's all you need to add in to the 'mapunlimited.xml'and the 'mappings.txt' is those two lines there:map.violentisles and map.violentislessouth. Right with those files added in there (exitthis.. open Wurm Unlimited now..) now if I press 'M'- there we go the Violent Isles map.It has the annotations for Noyoo Market, Yama and Isle of Regret. And that's all you'vegot to do to get the map installed and working. *furious clicking and dragging*You can also add any other maps.. erm.. once you download the map data from here:The files that are in here- you can add whatever you want if you, if you add a file.. in to here or anywhere in this jar file andyou reference it in here.. then you'll be able to erm.. give it a name like here's themaps because it's related to the maps. Erm.. you can just add in like erm.. just, whateverfiles you want really. Reference them in there and then in this, see how it saysthere? That's basically the little icons that youadd for the annotations but the actual map name is there:- map.violentisles which is.. here.Err that's it, thank you very much! Erm.. *mission accomplished rub of the hands...*If you have any problems you can contact me on Steam, err my Steam profile- I'll stickit in the description below but.. if you just add me and say 'Aww.. I need help' or whatever...I'll be happy to help. [oh really?] Okay? Right thank you very much for your time..Have fun- The Violent Isles are waiting...
Wurm Unlimited (and Wurm Online) have no mimimap and no marker of your location. You have two tools to figure out your location: a compass that indicates direction, and a map of how the major landmasses started before player terraforming.Using Your CompassYour primitive compass cannot be read unless it is perfectly still. It takes 16 seconds to settle after you stop moving, and then it will indicate which direction you are facing. You can also orient yourself using the white and black shafts of light that you see (they are not graphical errors, but beacons). These mark the position of two shrines which are roughly in the center North (white) and center South (black) of the map.In the fantasy world of Wurm, the sun rises in the northwest and sets in the southeast.Once you’ve figured out your direction, take note of the blue square border around the tiles that make up the ground. Because they are the grid that makes up the world, the lines of these squares will always run North-South and West-East. This can be a great help when you are trying to travel in a specific direction. Using Your MapYou can open your map by pressing M or by selecting “Stop or Main Menu” from the menu bar at the very top, then selecting “Map.”Your map is labeled with numerals on the x axis and letters on the y axis so that you can describe your position to other players. There are three total other coordinate systems used in the game:.
The Numeral + Letter grid displayed on everyone’s map, which is the easiest way to communicate with other players. Tile coordinates, which are used by GM commands and describe your position in (x,y) coordinates by what tile you are standing on. The default maps are 2048 x 2048 tiles, the blue squares o ground that light up when you mouse over them. Actual coordinates, which are only used by the game database and are more accurate than tiles by a factor of 4.Where Am I Now?Unless your server administrator has changed the spawn point, you will start next to one of the Stones of Soulfall. These are the default respawn points and are marked on your map. Find your position before you take off into the wilderness. The Ocrea map that comes with the game has five.
Hover over the stone with your mouse cursor. A blue outline will appear and you will see the name of the stone you have started next to; now you know where you are.If you are trying to find your way on Ocrea, this more detailed map of the land may help you identify landmarks.
It was pulled from the game files using the.If you are trying to meet up with friends, you will need to travel to their location. There are several ways to do this:A kindly GM character can teleport you instantly to any tile.If your friends have founded a village and invite you to become a citizen (have the leader type “/villageinvite ” in their chat window), you will be able to teleport directly to their settlement. If you are not given the option automatically on accepting the invitation, type “/vteleport” into your chat window.Your final option is undertaking an epic journey across the map. Hopefully you will have a detailed description of where you are headed, or even the map coordinates. It will not be as simple as walking in the right direction: Ocrea is densely forested, steep, and home to dangerous animals.
It is easy to become very lost when a steep hill or aggressive animal forces you to change direction. You can climb steep areas by toggling climbing mode on. It is the first of the icons above your event window. Climbing uses your stamina, the green resource bar in the upper left, so you cannot climb indefinitely. If you run out of stamina, you will stop climbing and fall. If you notice that you are near to the end of your stamina while on a steep slope, toggle climbing mode off before you completely run out, then on again briefly to catch yourself partway down. This will slow your fall and minimize injuries.
